Short birding

Small amount of birding done at the barn watching my daughter ride. Gave me two mystery birds. The first is a type of flycatcher and was too far away for me to see detail. The pics are better than I thought they would be but dont include wing detail, so likely left without an ID. The second, I got a good listen to the song and a "B" look at - it was bright yellow whole body with blue-gray wings, no facial details seen. In the field song and pictures seemed to match and confirmed listening to the song on Cornell's site. Alas no pics as it stayed still for the binoculars, but appeared quite camera-shy. So Life Bird #100 is a Prothonotary Warbler.
The neat thing is the more I pay attention, this one site seems to offer more variety of birds - I am getting better at listening and zooming in to the tree where the bird sits. I am anxious to start learning more about the birds I spot, and am 1/2 through The Sibley Guide to Bird Life and Behavior and am awaiting another biology book through the Audobon. Step by step for an obsessive birder. Cheers.

I think it's call a Great Crested Flycatcher. I will go look to confirm. Try looking him up and see what you think.

Dan - It's an Eastern Wood-pewee - sometimes the wing bars are not obvious on them - they aren't super strong to begin with and in the wrong lighting, etc. it can be tough!!! :-) Hope that helps!
